Storage & Handling
Check that Cables drums are stored on a well-drained hard surface, preferably on concrete, such that drums do not sink into the ground, causing rot & damage to cable drum(Especially for receipt of cables during monsoon)
Ensure ends of the cables are properly sealed to prevent ingress / absorption of moisture
Shelter the cables from rain and sun
Ensure that drums are resting on flanges and not on flat sides
Ensure drums are rolled across only in the direction of the arrow marked on the drum
Do not push the cable drums down the truck, use crane or roll down using suitable ramps
Use proper cable jacks to unleash cable from drum
Use cable rollers to pull the cables
Type Test - Certificates to be Submitted
Rated withstand AC voltage test
Partial discharge test
Rated withstand surge voltage test
Continuous AC voltage test with cyclic current loads (Number of heating cycles -3,)
Partial Discharge Test
Continues AC voltage Test with cyclic current (Number of Heating cycles-60)
Thermal Short Circuit Test
Continuous AC Voltage Test with cyclic current load. (Number of heating Cycles-63)
Rated withstand Surge Voltage Test
DC Voltage Test
Dynamic short circuit Test
Underground Cabling
Before laying of cables check the coordinated routing drgs with other services for crossing/spacing with any other underground / overhead service lines
Ensure that cable runs are truly horizontal, vertical or sloped with proper spacing between cables
Ensuring laying of Cables of correct size and specification
Check that there is no mechanical damage to insulation /armour / core
Check cable Megger values (500V megger for 1.1 KV and 2500/5000V for higher valves)
Ensure that no sharp turns / bends are given in cable route
Ensure proper approved depth of cable trench
Ensure provision of proper bricks / sand bedding
Finalize Joint location (if allowed & provided) & ensure these are strictly followed on site
Check that Cable route markers are provided at appropriate Distance
Check that there is no interference with low voltage installations (Min 600mm spacing)
Ensure that proper cable lugs / glands / shrouds of specified size and make are used
Check that HI-POT test is carried out
Check that sufficient loops are kept at supply & feeder end
Testing
Continuity test
Absence of cross phasing
Insulation resistance to
Earth / Sheath / Armour
Insulation resistance between conductors
Overhead Cabling
Before laying of cables check the coordinated routing drgs with other services for crossing/spacing with any other underground / overhead service lines
Ensure that cable runs are truly horizontal, vertical or sloped with proper spacing between cable to cable
Ensuring laying of Cables of correct size and specification
Check that there is no mechanical damage to insulation /armour / core
Check cable Megger values (500V megger for 1.1 KV and 2500/5000V for higher valves)
Ensure that no sharp turns / bends are given in cable route
Check that Cable trays are properly supported at different locations
Check that there are no sharp edges on cable trays
Finalize Joint location (if allowed & provided) & ensure these are strictly followed on site
Check for Painting of cable trays (at least two coats of red oxide)
Ensure that proper cable lugs / glands / shrouds of specified size and make are used
Check that HI-POT test is carried out
Check that sufficient loops are kept at supply & feeder end
Testing
Continuity test
Absence of cross phasing
Insulation resistance to
Earth / Sheath / Armour
Insulation resistance between conductors
